I was almost not able to record this show.
The management of the Morristown Community Theatre didn't want to let me bring in my equipment, but Flecktones sound man Richard Battaglia came to my rescue. He got the theatre to allow me to set up behind the last row of the orchestra section... IF I could find someone in the last row who would switch tickets with my brother and me. We found a couple in the center of the last row that were more than happy to move 15 rows closer to the stage!
The crowd was very quiet during the music. The Flecktones took advantage of this by playing one of the most sonically dynamic shows that I have ever heard. That is, the range between softest and loudest volume was huge. This was especially enjoyable during the four solos.
At the beginning of his solo, Bela tapped and scraped his banjo with no amplification. In the "old days" of cassette recording, this would have been buried in the tape hiss. Digital technology had no problem with it.
